(Solved)Getting all mouse buttons to work with Logitech

Postby DaddyX3 » Wed Oct 24, 2007 6:33 pm

EDIT: This is all an issue of the past. When Hardy Heron was released or (Ultimate Edition 1.8) the new kernel has everything and then a bag a chips. Forward and Back buttons worked right away.

I know the internet is flooded with this same question, however it appears to me that I do not have "evdev" driver for my logitech mouse and keyboard. I was looking in my "man xorg.conf" and I don't see that it is an option. I looked at several different sites and noticed that they all used "evdev" as the driver when setting up their mice.
1. How do I not have it?

2. How do I get it?

I've used the xev to find my mouse button events/ buttons but for some reason it only recognizes that I have button press's 1,2,3,4,5 and they are all jumbled up (ie: button 3 is on my center button and my browser back button, button 2 is on right click and browser forward) and it does not recognize my horizontal scoll buttons or my zoom +/- & 100% buttons
Anybody have a logitech mouse that could lend me a hand? I feel that I'm getting a good grasp on what I need to do to set it up but like I said, I have no "evdev" driver?

EDIT: I checked /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input ls
and saw evdev_drv.so How come Logitech's buttons don't just work out of the box!? All of this is irritating
EDIT#2: I just went through the "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" thing and fixed my mouse button issues with using "PS/Aux" selection and then just running with the "Explorer/PS2" option. I have to say that the details in this GUI configuration tool is quite confusing! "Explorer/PS2" ... I have a usb wireless mouse! Any way, my forward and back buttons work in my browsers and middle button and vertical scroll works just fine now, with no other adjustments necessary :D
On to my Next issue .... getting my dual X screens working again! That'll be fun

Hey, thanks for the input. I've already gone through pretty much every configuration possible and did alot of reading on xorg programing, bla bla bla. But for some reason none of it was happy. It might be due to the fact that I have the MX3000 media desktop, and both mouse and keyboard are using the same usb receiver. No body, that I've read, has had the same issues as me with setting up their mouse in xorg.conf. All the online info I found seems to work for everybody else but me. No Worries, I am perfectly content at the moment with having vertical scroll, middle mouse button, and forward and back buttons working :D
I had the dual X screens back up and running about 10 min. after my post. I have funny little issues with my Nvidia control manager  I know its mood and work around it.
