It's not looking good for Canonical.

The phone...ehhh, kind of a turn-off for some, you know, I mean..kind of weird having an opensource monetary contest for hardware no matter the intentions.

But that is just hardware, and anyone who has worked with any ARM(pretty much everyone, got a smartphone?) and uses Linux can just look at their phone to see how well the Ubuntu Mobile project is going, but moving on..

XMir

Might come as a shock but in opensource, when you have an extremely large number of volunteers combined with corporate hardware efforts to go in one direction(let's call it Wayland)

and you decide that as a company you can influence the overall direction for Linux and do whatever you want you might come into some resistance.

"We do not condone or support Canonical in the course of action they have chosen, and will not carry XMir patches upstream.

-The Management"

Intel, which is a company heavily invested in Wayland and has many full-time employees working on the competing display server (including Kristian Høgsberg, the Wayland founder), now doesn't want any XMir support in their mainline driver. It's interesting to see Intel management force the XMir removal from the Intel driver just days after it was committed and to publicly state a neutral stance on Canonical's controversial display server.

Not good for ultrabook users. Or Intel desktop users that rely on the Intel HD graphics. I think I will have to stop using Ubuntu after 13.10.. My Intel HD 3000 graphics.... why canonical.

I already switched to Ubuntu gnome 13.10... Have you seen the gnome design page for applications ..? They have copies every is out there from Mac iOS windows 8 and web os to make a better interface. Not very desktop friendly but not bad either.
