It's not looking good for Canonical.

The phone...ehhh, kind of a turn-off for some, you know, I mean..kind of weird having an opensource monetary contest for hardware no matter the intentions.
But that is just hardware, and anyone who has worked with any ARM(pretty much everyone, got a smartphone?) and uses Linux can just look at their phone to see how well the Ubuntu Mobile project is going, but moving on..
XMir
Might come as a shock but in opensource, when you have an extremely large number of volunteers combined with corporate hardware efforts to go in one direction(let's call it Wayland)
and you decide that as a company you can influence the overall direction for Linux and do whatever you want you might come into some resistance.
