Ultimate edition 3.1?

Postby Billie Cowie » Wed Dec 21, 2011 7:37 pm

Having waded through some controversial posts regarding 3.0- which, incidentally is working fine for me, I am a little confused as to what comes next?
I know TheeMahn wants to concentrate on programming and hand the OS development over to other admins. So far so good. We are all clear on that. What I am not so clear on is who is working on 3.1 & 3.2 and what direction they are taking.
I was formerly under the impression that 3.1 would be exclusively TheeMahn's work, and 3.2 would be completely the product of other developers.Am I wrong in this?
I also read a post by Guru suggesting that 3.2 would be based on Gnome3.2. If that's right I don't think I will be using it. Gnome3 is one direction I don't particularly want to go in.
I am sure I am not the only one who is getting a little confused.
Could the admins please clarify these points please. :?

Hi Billie Cowie,
As far as your post goes, you're pretty much spot on the mark. The disclaimer being that all things are subject to change. ;)
With regard to future directions, personally I see the old gnome as dead. That is not to say that there is no use for it - there is, as people generally don't like change and they will stay with the familiar until the familiar is no longer there. I also dislike Mint for a number of reasons but again, it has its place in the grand scheme of things. Linux is all about choice and the freedom to choose. If you don't like Gnome 3.2 as an example, that's fine, nobody will hunt you down and force you to use it.
I see the future through 'Unity' and 'Gnome-shell' tinted glasses but most if not all here would disagree with me. Thankfully, the future direction of Ultimate Edition will be determined by consensus and not one individuals preferences (although Thee has done a great job getting us to this point). ;) :D

Cheers.

Hi, Moebius,
thanks for the quick response. Nice to have things cleared up. I will be interested to see how 3.1 turns out. If it's TheeMahn's baby, I know I'm going to like it.
As for 3.2, we will just have to wait and see how events unfold.
Cheers mate - I'll catch up with you on OZ sometime soon , but if we don't talk before Christmas have a great holiday! :P
P.S. that goes for everyone reading this post and everyone on all the U.E.forums.

I have debianised it, it is not w/o issue. I also have seen there is a issue with 3.1's theme:

Work on one issue find another ;)

Wireless is a big issue here, I am now staying with my GF while I am off for the week, she does not believe in inet, so wireless becomes a mainstay if you will borrowing it from the neighbors. I have a wireless adapter in route. The Antenna I am using is 1000 mw non-directional, may look into merging connections. I could stand 30 megabits per sec for free ;) If it has even close to the range I think it will have I may buy a ton of them. Nothing illegal all are open networks.

I am working on 3.01 x64 not 3.1 (YET!!!), I am a man of my words, you will have Ultimate Edition 3.1. I am 1 man, once again a man of my words.

Want a itinerary?
Ultimate Edition 3.01 X64
Ultimate Edition 3.1 x86
Ultimate Edition 3.1 X64
Ultimate Edition 3.3 x86 & X 64

Sux to be me, I am in a catch up phase. Did you know, for example 3.2 has been downloaded over 100,000 times? Me stepping back actually hurts Ultimate Edition in general, but as I said I am a man of my words. What about Ultimate Edition 3.3? Wow!!! That may be something I have to build somewhere in between, for only one purpose. Not to crush my site, but to maintain traffic. I really wish ppl could see what I see. Talented fella for sure... I will leave it there.
