3.0...Needs A Little More Work, That`s All

Postby onosendai58 » Sat Dec 17, 2011 4:25 am

It hurts to finally admit this, but it simply is. No distro, much less Ultimate Edition, should have this many game-breaking bugs. I`ve reinstalled and fiddled until I`m blue in the face and it is still broken. Mint Software Manager doesn`t work, gDebi doesn`t work, Ubuntu Software Center doesn`t work, Update Manager doesn`t work, even Synaptic doesn`t work, (keeps hanging up and shows an error message and "failed" with almost all packages). I don`t know all the details, nor do I need to, but this is just unacceptable. I know what happened while Glenn was building this and sympathize completely. That being said, this feels like it was rushed out the door with Mint tacked on at the last minute. This is the last post I thought I would ever write, but having to do multiple workarounds just to try and salvage a working distro out of this mess is not the right way to go about this. I thought the dev team was busy debugging this all this time, so what happened? This is an alpha release, no two ways about it. Yes, it`s free and yes I`m grateful, but this is not up to the standards that has been set before and I humbly ask for a patch/update to fix it.

Yep, when I first installed it that`s how I felt. Then Mint Software Mgr didn`t work. Okay, I`ll use Tweak. Later, I wanted something Tweak didn`t have so I installed Ubuntu Software Center, but it didn`t work either. Okay. I wanted BlackDeck theme, so I downloaded it, but gDebi didn`t work, (gDebi wouldn`t install a deb package, wtf?) I know this is all fun and games to pch.shot, everything is, but I expected better from you, Blackwolf. One of Ultimate Edition`s biggest supporters admits he was wrong and asks for a patch to fix a broken OS and this is your reaction? And by the swarm of other comments you know it isn`t just me. When Admin-Amir tells someone that they have to "disable" Synaptic to get Mint Software Mgr to work, then something ain`t right.

I have been running xp for years. It has never failed me(knock wood). An os is not broken when you can fix it yourself. And that is what I suggest you do.

I`ll keep using it because an alpha version of Ultimate Edition is still better than any other`s final, plus, it has most of the software I want, but it shouldn`t have all these major flaws. If Glenn feels the need to patch it, then so be it. I won`t be recommending that any more people check it out, though. That would just be embarassing.
