11.04 and ATI

Postby billhedrick » Tue Apr 19, 2011 10:19 pm

I have heard reports that Natty doesn't like ATI, I just booted into it via live disk, and it is much more accomodating to my ATI Radeon HD 4850 than 2.9 was! I didn't do any 3D stuff, but it seems to have no trouble with it. Not ready to buy into a UE-less distro tho.

Works fine with Natty and Gnome 3 shell.

ATI does not like Unity.

lol

4 systems on hand right now

Nvidia , ati , intel

I would have to say compliance with Linux would work in this order.

Intel

Nvidia

ATI / AMD

I like ATI kuz its cooler running and greener with more impressive architecture.

But there driver support sucks.

I may not like Unity, or Ubuntu much for that matter, but I have been in testing for several cycles with Ubuntu including 11.04. I have a poorly supported Radeon HD 2400 PRO and have no trouble running Unity at all. I do have fglrx installed.

11.04 is more than Unity. I have Xubuntu installed, and am moderately happy, still a bunch of issues to fix. Gnome 3 is pretty nice IMHO
