I got something similar going on with a Compaq
(a laptop they built with the parts they swept up off the floor of the HP factory)
It won't take a charge or work off the power cord, but the cord is supplying the proper DC volts.
Had to download a manual to tell me how to take it apart.
Makes Nuclear physics look simple.

The factory battery is a HP.
The first pin (on the left) inside the battery compartment is a little taller than the rest but they are all the same length.

Would be interested to hear how you fixed it, might solve my problems as well.

I have a HP and I'm wondering if they don't have the pins connecting to the battery. In Linux, I'm told the design charge is 88.8 Wh, and my last full charge was 31.7 Wh. Could this be a pin isn't connected so the battery can't charge, or is it just my old battery? (It's about a year old)

I haven't been able to find the culprit in my system either.

what model #hp laptop is it, i have dissasembled 3 different ones to grease the cpu and clean fans...I had to HP's support site and downloads a service manual by pdf format....just search for the model on hps website for support and look at the documentation side instead of the drivers....last one i tore down took about 3 hrs to dissasemble and 5 1/2 hours to put together....warning get a metric ruler and measure the screws, the manuals shows which ones where and there are multiple sizes......as for the battery mine did same thing and yes there are different lengths on all 3 i worked on......to fix calibration i booted into windows and did a battery calibration then went back to linux and quit watching battery indicator, never could get it right, readings were all over the place....hope this helps, didnt notice the date on the post so i might be way to late....i newbie and still learning this stuff.........C-Ya :ugeek:
