USB 3.1 @ 10Gbps.

Postby pam » Sat Aug 03, 2013 11:27 am

USB 3.1 specs have been finalised. USB 3.0 is rated at 5 Gbps. Thunderbolt will be jumping to 20 Gbps.
Thunderbolt is very costly. USB 3.0 devices and ports are still not being exploited to their fullest potential and have the speed and latency of SATA 2.0.

USB 3.1 should provide enough bandwidth and lower latencies and may be faster than PCI- express 1 ethernet cards. If they really live up to the expectations and even if they consume more power they could provide a high powered interface for a myriad of external devices not limited to disk read writes and having infiniband speeds as network cards but even external graphics adapters for laptops(speculation---but easy to implement)...

I had an article around here somewhere about thunderbolt....

My laptop has 3 USB 3 ports. I can get a good 2.5 Gb/s.
