eMachine video upgrade?

Postby deate » Wed Apr 02, 2008 7:12 pm

I have an eMachine T4852 desktop that I would like to upgrade the video on. It has(I believe) a 4X/8X AGP slot. Any recommendations on video cards, for cheap and easy to get to work with 1.7???

Heres what TheeMahn used to have and claimed to work pretty good. Its a 7600GT available @ Newegg. This is a good "bang-for-the-buck" card and available for AGP 4/8x slots. Good Luck.

Hey, thanks! But, in digging thru my stuff, I found an ATI All in wonder AGP, XL600 I think, What are the chances of making this work, what with the drivers required?

Well, I'll say to give it a shot and see if drama's How-To works out for ya. He's the man around here for ATI stuff.

Thank you, I'll give it a shot, but just out of curiosity, doesn't ENVY load ATI drivers? And if so, is there a problem with using That? I don't know maybe the ENVY driver load causes problems??????
Wow!!!Just did some more reading thru Leadfingers newbie section, and my question is answered!!!

envy does work for some ppl. for others its been known to screw the whole install up. ive always fallen into the later category. ppl such as myself who have problems with envy should try my howto. that is who ive written it for. however its in bad need of an update. i hope to update it in the next week or so if all goes well with the latest driver. still testing it.

my suggestions would be as follows.

try envy first

if that fails then use the howto i have written.

i just checked too and as of march 3rd that card is still supported by the latest driver. that dont mean it wont get dropped in the future, ati peridocially drops support for "older" cards and adds new ones. pre stupid if you ask me. i also hate there deffenition of "older" too. ati isnt like nvidia. nvidia has a few classes of drivers from what i understand. ati has only 1.
