SiS 671 Mirage 3 graphics cards support ?

Postby Persio » Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:18 am

Hi,

My question is: Does Ultimate Edition fully support SiS 671 Mirage 3 graphics cards ?

This is a very problematic thing because SiS (Silicone Integrated Systems) will not release any Linux drivers. There are several end-user made 2D drivers out there but ofcourse upgrading to new Linux versions always causes the need for new drivers. And it's alway a big hassle to install them and to get them working right. And they're always very limited in their graphics quality.

Cheers

Guess Ultimate Edition doesn't support SiS 671 Mirage 3 graphics cards ?

My question is part of a search for a distro that does support this card. Already I am using a 2D driver from a somewhat more reliable source. http://ajoliveira.com/ajoliveira/uk/software/xorg.php
Mr Oliveira has been so kind to share a decent working 2D driver but still I have problems with parts of graphics disappearing regularly.

There is talk about a driver on a Portuguese from the website of a Mr Hugo Bastos but even using Google Translations I can't figure out exactly what to do with it. http://diversosassuntosbrasil.blogspot.com/2011/09/ubuntu-1110-e-placa-de-video-sis-671.html

Also it seems that even though in previous versions Mr Bastos actually could provide us with a 3D driver, GNOME 3 made it unusable. Thats why a integrated solution would be so welcome. Since I lac the knowledge how to do this, I can only ask.
