SSD vs SATA HD

Just thought I would post some stats on the differences between quality SSD, Poor SDD, Quality HD, and Crappy HD.

Just so you all know I received a lot of benchmarking examples from a SSD maker company named DVNation.com .
They guarantee their drives will work ...5 year warranty. Unlike most drives when you use the plator for Reading or writing eventually they will wear out and fail. This company specifies there drives have unlimited read and 140 years @ 5 GB a day for write. I might be misquoting but I am pleased with this company. I still don't suggest these drives for the average consumer unless wealthy or like myself..."penny pincher". My hope is that by next year they will be cheap enough for the mass market. Plus, Remember the NAND Flash drives are not a new technology. We have had this technology for 20 years now. We are just now applying it in new ways. :ugeek:

WOW! looks pretty impressive. One problem though, our current Motherboards, and chipsets can't even handle the speeds that SATA 3.0 GiB drives put out, so how are they clearing the bottleneck by using these drives?

I believe they are trying to steer people away from using the SSDs for major video / audio intensive editing...since the bottle neck is restrictive...They also limit these drives to 1.5 GP/s internally for maximum usage. I say these drives won't be as useful for Desktops as much as laptops/notebooks. Who knows current chipsets are being updated all the time so we may see some impressive technologies in the years to come.

There dropping the prices on these give it another quarter or two to go down further and then we will be talking.

True possibly true...Regardless, I typically buy drives like the Velociraptor from Western Digital if I want extreme performance for more affordability. SSD's are great if you never want to defragment again. I was thinking of getting one because I am big techno nerd who likes having some of the lastest technology...when I can afford it.

All i am saying is that I will consider buying them if they stay around 1 gb per dollars or .5 GB per dollar which there getting closer to becoming as we speak.

Anywho...to each his own. Just thought i would share the news if any were interested.

Please don't get me wrong..bought my 9850 blackie, for 230 now Frys had them on sale for 199, there are certainly some good deals to be made out there and if someone wanted to keep up with the latest he would be to busy installing and not enjoying...course that could be incorrect also..follow the drift...
And thanks for the input..like always you have been a help... ;)

OH no...I knew what you meant ..
I was just saying like most other consumers I wait for something I like to come down in price a whole lot before I use it. I love my SSD for my laptop and would love to have it for my desktop as a Windows drives.
I am devious...because if I got one of the new SSDs for around 200 dollars I would so install windows on the SSD..then wipe my two raptor drives and install Ultimate Edition via RAID 0 on both of them. Then use my Velociraptor drive for Gaming and pagefiling/swap space for windows/linux.

And to be truthfully honest I haven't fully had a chance to test and enjoy my laptop/desktop since I am still in school. There always seems to be a paper to write or another program to develop for class or a database to reconfigure for school....maybe one day I will narrow down what I want to do as far as degrees are concerned and specialize.

I was actually thinking of becoming a UI programmer. That way I could get to play with hardware and software.

Smart!! Since it's good to know how hardware works to write programs to conform to (or vice versa) might's well get the sheepskin that goes with it ;) Sounds you got the plan there Aper...all the best to you :D 8-)
