Best cpu cooler for intel 3xxx and bulldozer fx

Postby pam » Tue Oct 04, 2011 1:02 am

With ddr3 1866 being booted and currently 2133 mhz affordable modules being available the future gets more interesting.

just got a Thermalright ifx-14 (unneeded) cpu cooler for $48 for my phenom II (Coolermaster hyper tx-3 dual push- pull config fans). With Global Foundries yield issue delaying llano and bulldozer AMD gets ready for setbacks.

My hyper tx 3 does a beautiful job and i decided to get a silver arrow but the cost was too much and the guys i bought from had a sale on and i saw the ifx-14 -- an early design-board coarse prototype of the silver arrow. This thing is definitely not fan friendly and it took me almost 2 days to attach 2 push-pull fans without rattling on the the fins. This thing is horrible and unfriendly but it does more than its job to which i conclude the newer unreleased chips from intel and AMD should hit the 5.1 ghz stable mark on this air cooler. You could probably use any 120mm or 140mm fan enabled heatsinks. Cooler master undeniably makes the highest quality easy to use blister and sore free (for your fingers) cheap coolers from the lot along with their newly launched hyper 212+ evo for AM3+. Thermalright got its act together along with many other brands like corsair, thermaltake, scythe, cogage etc. Dual push-pull fan configurations benefit the most.

Without doubt overclocking to 6ghz with intel i7 2700k or the anticipated 3000 series and the unlocked AMD fX-8150 on air shouldnt be a problem with current new age designs-- a silver arrow with 3 fans should and with the right overclocking skill set allow you to run 5.6--5.8 ghz 24/7 as if it were stock speed.

keeping our fingers crossed time will tell whats waiting in store.

Wow, that is one big cooler...
Would love to see a pic of your rig, if everything follows the pattern, the new CPU's will run cooler at stock.
But in windows, who runs stock.
So far there really has been no leaks to the performance of the new CPU's, at least any that are substantiated.
We should see something soon though and on come the testing, it will be interesting on seeing what others will run to get the optimum performance of there rigs. BTW..nice and interesting post.

The nzxt beta evo is a very nice case.. like the design which allows two fans to be mounted on top of the case.
Myself I opted for the CM Scout for a build...the price was right.
But this is getting away fro the original post or thread lol...
Myself for a CPU cooler was looking at the Antec H20 920 or the XIGMATEK Dark Knight..
Since you are into Over Clocking, you are very aware of heat issues that come into play with that.
Hopefully in a few days will see some specks released on the Bulldozer line and then the fun begins....;)
With a new case little cable management. one awesome rig you have, not that is not already.
