Sound/mic problems

Postby memomelaque » Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:25 am

I have a Gateway M-2619e laptop. Athlon X-2, ATI Radeon HD 3100, Dual boot Win7 and Ultimate Edition 2.9

Normally this is the problem: When I boot Ultimate Edition I have sound from the laptop speakers, if I connect a headphone afterwards there is no sound in the headphone, only the laptop.

If I boot up with the headphone in place, there is only sound in the headphones, if disconnected, there is no sound at all.

In neither instance do the mics function.

I have made sure that things are not muted, that volumes are up. But still the same thing.

A couple of times things worked correctly, but I have no idea why they decided to work.

When I boot the 2.9 live, everything works as it should. Sound either from the laptop or the headphones, both mics function correctly. What happens that Live will work but installed causes problems?

In Win7 everything works correctly.

I have pretty much the same problem with Linux Mint 11, a little different, but basically the same.

I hope that someone can help me, nothing that I have found here seems to help nor on the Ubuntu forums.

Thanks everyone for the help and ideas for me on this problem. The solution turned out to be very simple. I just let the update to 11.04 go forward, after I reinstalled Ultimate Edition 2.9. It took 2 sessions, a first partial update to 11.04 and then a (apparently) full update. Now everything seems to be working. Again, thanks to everyone for your help.

OK upgrading to 11.04 tends to break stuff in Ultimate Edition. You may have lost some stuff that TheeMann installed under the hood
