gregory after install the ubuntu-restricted-extras please restart your machine.
the when you will be back to your Desktop try to install again:

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-jaunty-generic


it looks like there is A bug with the common with this Driver.
but I will need you to install leter the madwifipackage.
and to see if the ndiswrapper:

O.k gregory.

now go to the icon up with the monitors,
left click=>connect to hidden network=>left click on it.
then will pop up the network name+ what kind of security.
Enter the network name and chose WPA&WPA2.
insert your password for your network and hit connect.
Disconnect the cable and if all goes O.K you will see the wireless connection icon.

when you left click you can see the option:
connect to hidden network-left click again on the connect to hidden network,
then you will see that pop up (the language is not important now):
