Ati Driver at Ubuntu live boot <Solved>

Postby fisk » Sun Jan 18, 2009 7:22 am

Hey everyone,
I have the following nasty problem; I'm trying to boot Ubuntu 8.10 as well as Linux Mint, but both distros, does not seem to support ati or provide some sort of solution. My PC runs ati 3870, I'm able to observe the entire boot process, but just before the X loads, my screen flashes and turns off. I hear the welcome melody, but that's all. Then all I can do is to swith to a terminal, create an internet connection, download the ati drivers, restart the gdm and then it's ok. But you know what happens when I restart. So, I wonder what's the option for ati users, how can I work with the live distros? Any way to implement ati driver?
Also, I see the whole boot process, can't I just use the same initial graphic environment?
Thanks and Happy New Year everyone :)

Yep, the second link got it. All I had to do is just to add "Driver "VESA"" into xorgcfg file and worked as a charm! Thanks a lot.

congrats on becoming moderator, Stanca <BREW>
