I am currently really getting into the ultimate ubuntu os and also wanting to make my own pc. Currently all i have in mind is Apevia X-Jupiter G Type ATX Full-Tower Case, I am curious about what you guys have built and the hardware you used. If you happen to have the same tower case, let me know what setup you have and also how you are using you pc.

Looks pretty sweet, are the stabilizer fins at the bottom designed for the new WD 20K RPM drives?

I would imagine so. Something will have to keep the box from flying around the room!! Look on the bright side, all you have to do to dry your hair will be to get within 10 feet of the proposed raptor.

Word of warning!
While Linux has come light years in terms of hardware computability,
Never assume your dream hardware is compatible with Linux .
If you haven't run it before, Google Linux Name_&_model_of_hardware to find if anyone has a gripe. Don't let 1 or 2 complaints sour you on a piece of hardware, unless it is a Unresolved bug report.
Several issues = Look elsewhere.

With the rush of motherboard manufactures to get the latest to market, I've had to change my shopping habits. I now check the reviews in newegg.com (after I google it) and check the % of bad reviews.
No matter how high the Drool-factor, if the bad reviews are over 8% - 10% I wont touch it.

Graphics cards:
I stick with Nvidia because it has better Linux support, This means it installs easier and has less unexpected issues. The Nvidia site has a Linux compatibility list here.

This article is a year old but still a good one to read for anyone deciding to build their first Linux machine.

 one caveat though, you will either need a remote to power that puppy on, or use a ten foot pole to depress the power button. after the neighborhood brownout, you can surf the net on your wireless keyboard and mouse. ( any closer than said ten foot safety rule may cause disruption in services, on the account one MAY get sucked into a vortex never to be heard from again.)

I've been with a few women in my time for a good spin. Never at 20k however. Getting up from the couch now is spin enough for me. With any luck, I'll have a ssd very soon. No more spinning.
A spinning hard drive will become like a 45 record. You will have a stack of them in the attic and every once in a while you will dig them out and reminisce with your grand kids about the good old days!!
