Unable to adjust brightness

I have a sony vaio vgn-nr110e and I'm having trouble controlling the brightness of my laptop. I have tried to use the xbacklight and others as well and i still can not change the brightness. Anyone willing to help me?

1.46 GHz Intel Pentium T2310 dual-core processor
1 GB of installed DDR2 RAM (PC4200, 2 x 512 MB DDR2, 533 MHz)
