3.7 Install Driver issue

I installed 3.7 by usb, finished installing and rebooted into the system. About five minutes after logging in, I started getting error msg's about system processes crashing. Then the video driver crashed. Rebooted, got to the page witht the logo, and the red progress bar, it hung on that page. Rebooted, passed the logo page, and video crashed again, unable to use any of the options given, had to hard reboot. Rebooted into Advanced Options, clicked Ubuntu, processes started loading, finally got to options screens, nothing would work, clicked on it, nothing happened. Then rebooted into Advanced again, hung on processes reloading.

Rebooted to usb, ran synaptic, "installed-upgradeable" apparently my video driver isn't even installed. Aha I found problem, now how do I install the video driver, synaptic won't install to installed version, but to the usb, if that.

Reinstalled, just hoping I would get lucky, have had that happen in past. OS just didn't install correctly first time, second time it ran perfect. Anyway, no such luck, still same problems. It either hangs on logo screen, or video crashes after logo screen. I don't think video is only driver I'm having trouble with, but I need to get booted into installed version so I can fix those.

Anyway to update/install video driver while installing, or running off live usb? What else can I try?

Also another problem, I decided to leave Ultimate Edition alone for a little while, and boot back into windows, as I have some important work I need to get done first thing this morning. However the grub is not correct, not sure how this happened but windows is installed to sba 1, but runs off sba5, or something like that, anyway Windows is located on both 1 and 5, boot is on 1 everything else on 5, only 5 is listed in grub, so I can't even boot into windows, so I'm kind of desperate to get something fixed.

Thank you so much for your help.

Thank you for your reply, however after several more hours of googleing I found a suggestion for alt-f5 after hang. It gave me a command line to log in. Then offered updates. Unfortunately I have a slow internet connection so it'll be tomorrow before it finishes updating.

Never Upgrade ultimate edition. Upgrading and updating get used interchangeably. Dont do this it will break your system.
I'd recommend you install Ultimate Edition 3.8.
