thank you... although I did go with Debian 6 I can now reflect back upon my experience and first impression with Ultimate Edition.

Installation with debian was flawless, all my peripherals work as they should and I am amazed by the speed of the operating system itself, not to mention the boot time.

looking back on Ultimate Edition I do not view it as a custom system, it was more like a bunch of anything and everything thrown in to a multishell package, which was quite boggy and laggy. I see no reason to have 5+ chat clients and 5+ Instant Messaging clients and 5+ package managers nor half the other useless stuff I myself would never use and spent nearly a whole day uninstalling and repacking the kernel. It just doesn't make any sense, the Ultimate Edition edition itself is not logical and in my honest opinion should not even exist... none the less it does and for reasons unknown...?

it's like some amateur got a hold of remasterys or one of the various operating system integrators and went to town with very little knowledge.

sorry for my lame attitude, Ultimate Edition is just incomprehensible and illogical... maybe one day they will make a truly custom piece of work?

Ultimate Edition 3.5 is based on ubuntu 12.04
and ubuntu is based on debian.

Debian is way better than ubuntu in stability and hardware driver integrity.
If you do not face any problems on debian, its a true testament to quality.

Your disconnection problem for your card has been going on for a long time. Infact even i faced the same problem with a trendnet adapter.
Its a bug.

Here are the newer drivers for newer kernels:

here is how to install them:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1605285

In your profile it shows you are using Ultimate Edition 3.1
Are you using Ultimate Edition 3.5?

Then What hardware are you using? Please state it in your signature. If you are using very old hardware use Ultimate Edition 2.6 and if newer then Ultimate Edition 3.5

As for your complaint on the bloatedness of Ultimate Edition, its a fortunate OS for those who do not have a fast internet connection nor a consistent one.
Those who want to experiment don't need to hunt for packages nor dependencies.

Also installing nvidia drivers is not friendly on linux.

sorry I am using a Dell Precision M6600 (no touch screen) with some hard drive and memory upgrades (SSD Vertex4 256.Gb hd0) / (16.Gb DDR3) / (Nvidia Quadro 4000M - 2Gb) I am not too far behind, the laptop isn't that old...

I Downloaded Ultimate Edition 3.5 x64, I am not sure if you have to set the system being used in the profile here on the forum or if it automatically detected it?

here is what I downloaded... the memory 'burn-in' version during setup ;)

Nice system you got there, but you will have to write your signature down, no forum detects hardware automatically.
Please write in detail what hardware(wifi etc) you are using, the dell website gives alternates for the hardware used.

I dont know how well nouveau is reverse-engineered to support quadro, but download and install the drivers from nvidia.com/drivers website.

Thanks Pam... unfortunately I don't think I'll be hanging around long enough this time around to go ahead and complete my profile. I've already got Ultimate Edition on the back burner so I'll head back over when I get the experiment itch again and run Ultimate Edition through T2 or one of the various installation tools for a Ultimate Edition PE (phlegm edition) :D

btw I lost a whole gui (xfce) uninstalling a single chat or IM client... not sure exactly which one but it was during my targeting of those unneeded clients. Ultimate Edition takes the cake though for the most annoying and repetitive root password prompt in the history of distro's lololol. I am thinking that will be gone in the phlegm edition too? but it makes me nervous just thinking about running Ultimate Edition through anything in a type of preinstall enviro... the whole house just might come tumbling down!? (I felt it was hanging on to stability by a thread as it were) <-pun intended
