Kernel upgrade problems...

Postby ninjawarrior » Sat Mar 02, 2013 6:02 am

I recently did a new install of UE3.5 and tried to upgrade the kernel to 3.7 and got this response after I was done:
ScreenShot_001.png

How does one fix this firmware issue?
I also tried to install the 3.6 kerel afterwards and got to no avail and it seems my video drivers were rolled back. Now I can`t seem to change or upgrade the video drivers. This is what my terminal came up with after the instal of 3.6 :
Code: Select all
jondo7@jondo7-desktop:~/Documents$     chmod +x /tmp/linux-kernel-3.6
jondo7@jondo7-desktop:~/Documents$     sudo sh -c '/tmp/linux-kernel-3.6'

ninjawarrior, everyone encounters that same firmware issue.
just ignore and say OK and proceed ahead..

Just try and remove the drivers and then install again..
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current

here are some links...
http://askubuntu.com/questions/192025/u ... er-upgrade
http://askubuntu.com/questions/128113/h ... ry-drivers

after removing the drivers successfully..reboot and then install drivers from nvidia from following post :

Personally, my firmware issure was relatable to my ethernet. Since none of that process would have been achievable without said ethernet working, I indeed, ignored it.

I see it in your pic...r8169...is your ethernet working? :D

After I installed Kerel 3.6, I restarted and the resulution was 800x600. So I fired up Jockey, in root, and tried to use the NVIDIA cuurent drivers but it wouldn`t install correctly. So I moved on and installed the 304.64 video driver in Jockey. That seemed to do the trick! Now the video is working just fine. It seemes to me that i`ve done this several times allready and some new problem always develops. Oh well, all is good for now.
I just downloaded ONYX64 and will be daul booting that on this system. I`ll probably be doing a video driver upgrade on that- Oh how fun!! :D
Also I am running a wireless card in my system which works just fine. I did make the change in my signature, sorry...
