Ultimate Edition 3.5 Wont Install

Just dowloaded and tried to install it, but am not able to.. When I go to the menue and choose install, all I get is a black screen and blinking cursor.. The last time I had this issue was with Ultimate Edition 3.4. To install it I had to put in my old vidoe card which was a XFX Geforce 9800 GTX+. Since I no longer have this card, as I sold it, I'm unable to install any version past 3.3. My new video card ASUS Geforce GTX 550 ti won't work on 3.4-3.5. This has something to do with Unbuntu 12.04. The earlier version 11.10 my new video card would work while installing. But I guess until ubuntu finally does it's job and fixes this issue, I won't be able to install any distro that uses 12.04 pretty sad if I say so myself... I just built a newer and faster machine, and was looking forward to trying this, but will have to settle with 3.3 instead...

try burning another DVD at the least possible speed.
if you have windows try booting into it or any other os you may have installed....
also what is the wattage of your PSU?...



I hope you are aware that you need to download and install proprietary drivers from the geforce site once your system is installed:

Burned it at the lowest speed my burner would allow which is 4x. This is a issue with Ubuntu 12.04 and not the card.. I went through 12 dvd one time while trying to install another distro that was based on 12.04. Once I switched video cards it was fine.. Like I said I have no issues installing Ultimate Edition before 3.4-3.5 with Ubuntu 11.10. And ya I know how to install the drivers, but getting it installed first will be the problem.

All directions I have gone point to nomodeset. Basically the hardware settings are with the kernel to make things look pretty but look like a black screen without the right drivers in play so you need to get your drivers from bios through grub instead. I need to go through my cards and see if I can replicate this later.

Re-seating the video card will not do a thing. If the video card works with windows, how is re-setting it going to make a difference? This is not my first rodeo with a linux distor.. The problem is Ubuntu 12.04 read the first post. Installing Ultimate Edition 3.3 with same video card worked, with 3.4-3.5 it will not work.. I also tried to run in windows, and it still won't work. No offense, but this is the one reason why alot of people I know will not install any linux distro.. you would think that after yrs of development, they would finally get things right, but they still are yrs away from getting poeple to like it compared to windows sad to say but true..

It's really more a nvidia proprietary driver type thing. The idea is if you sell software to run hardware for $100 dollars you need to prevent someone else doing the same thing for $50. An easy way to do this is to make the hardware run only on your software. That is an extremely nice video card by the way.

Well I used your link to get this thing to start to load. I wish I knew about it before. But once it was almost installed I got a can't install grub3 this is a fatal error. So now what? How do I install Ultimate Edition 3.5 if grub failed..

What happened on reboot? Try going in and updating grub from the install disc. sudo apt-get update grub

Please post your partition setup. You may have to specify the /dev/sda or wherever you need to boot from. I understand your gpu frustration, but when it comes down to it, it's a small price to pay. Not to mention a learning experience. But all in all keep a positive outlook and remember we are only trying to help you through your issues.
