Can only use KDE

Why can I only use KDE? When ever I try to log into other desktops they won't show any graphical interface. Which that leads me to having to reboot the entire system. I have already tried restarting xserver but that does not work. Anyone else having the same issue??

what are your system specs?
Are you using a radeon or nvidia card?

Is the resolution correctly set by default...

You should not have any problems logging out and logging into any other DE.

press ctrl+alt+del on KDE and logout...login with unity or any other..

I think I might have found the problem. I have gotten a few of the DE's to work now, but there are still a few that I can't. I finally got around to installing my ATI driver (I was afraid at first because of the nightmare I had before with previous builds, LOL) but all is good now. I noticed that when I go into recovery and run fix broken packages that Cinnimon, Gnome, Unity, and a few others are in the list. I have tried to fix them short of acutallly running a bash to re-install them. Is there anyone else having issues with other DE's besides KDE??


Edit: Upon further review, it seems that Compize Fusion Icon keeps crashing the desktops. I get the error about 30 seconds into being inside a DE that is booting up. Any suggestions?? So far the list of DE's are as follows (these will not boot into the DE, just shows the background and the crash report bubble):

Both Cinamin DE's
Gnome (Gnome classic and without effects work perfect)
Gnome/Openbox
Openbox
Ubuntu (2D works well)

All the others open up and run just fine. What do you guys think?? And yes Pam, my resolution is set and stable at 1600x900. Always a problem in the Linux world, but that is the whole fun of it though. Trying to find out the solution to help others. LOL

Please list your computer specifications in your signature...it will help us a lot.

Compiz crashes are mostly related to glitchy drivers(nowadays) if you are using modern hardware-- an AMD or nividia card.

I was in hell with an older driver version and reinstalling newer drivers over the older ones will cause brain damage

Remove the older drivers and install the fresh one.
