Ultimate Edition 3.5 Login from Live CD after logout -[SOLVED]

Postby drewstew » Mon Oct 22, 2012 4:01 am

I'd like to explore the other desktops before installing 3.5, but the Ubuntu 12.04 standard login of "ubuntu" and blank password does not work, (i.e. after booting up into kde desktop and hitting "logout" to access the other desktops).

Can someone supply the magic words please?

Hi,

if you logout once fully booted, click on the cogwheel on the login window and select a different DE and select okay then just hit return and it should boot into the choosen DE. (Says he hopefully!!).

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm afraid not! Still getting "invalid password"

I know that this post is marked solved, but I think that I have an easier solution. When you log out of the live CD session you will notice the word "ultimate" in the upper left corner of the logon screen. Select your next session type, key in ultimate as the user name and leave the password blank. This will log you into the new session.

You could also...

Open a Terminal

Code: Select all
sudo passwd

Create a Unix Password

Logout

log in as

Username=root
Password=(whatever password you gave)

This is also useful for moving Root files from usr/share/backgrounds, usr/share/wallpapers, usr/share/icons, usr/share/theme..etc... on to a drive

For Example

Let's assume you have created a root account on 3.5

Open a Terminal

Code: Select all
su

Now open a File Manager at root

Code: Select all
dolphin

or
Code: Select all
nautilus

There are a couple others..anywho..

Now that you have a root file manager opened on disc, you can transfer root files to another drive

This comes in handy if you are running a lite version of Ultimate Edition, although I think 3.4 lite includes everything. Or if you just primarily use Ultimate Edition but experiment with other OS, and want the theming.

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:
