Yes there is...you have to disable secure boot...which I already did. I did that before trying any Linux system on here..But windows 8 just sucks all the way around. they have done so many different things with the bios to prevent installing any other operating system...although they will tell you its to prevent hacking and viruses and to make the entire system more secure...but that is nothing but BS. I kept windows 8 for about a year...even with antivirus and spyware monitors I still got viruses and trojans and all that. Which was what made me start looking into Linux to begin with. Now I did have OpenSuse 13 running on here with no problems except for it kept disabling WiFi which drove me crazy and why I went looking for something different.I do know some about Linux but still very new to it.So anytime something weird comes up I do look it up on the internet first. I don't try to "fix it" myself for fear of really messing it up...But I am learning.And I will keep trying to figure this out I am completely sure there is some setting in the Bios thanks to windows 8 that needs to be changed.But it is working...just have to go about it the most backwards way possible.But I would rather that then go back to windows any day of the week....I have also heard somewhere other people that have a Lenovo computer having issues too...so it could be this computer...I have an older computer...a Dell that it runs just fine on.But that was my mom's computer and maybe I am strange but she passed 2 years ago and I keep her computer in top condition only to be used in an emergency.

you may want to look at the boot order in BIOS

I have done that...I first had it to boot from HDD first then DVD then USB...which you would think thats how it should be...If I just hit power button and let it go...it just goes to a black screen and nothing more...so I was having to go in to boot menu...F12 and arrow down to DVD...and mind u there is no disk in DVD drive...then enter anf it will start the system which is clearly on the HDD. So I then went in to BIOS and changed Boot order to boot DVD first then HDD just to prevent me having to do F12 every single time I start the computer...which works unless you try to restart from the system ...then it goes to black screen...so you, at this point, have to always shut down and hit power on again


Finding that it worked booting from DVD I found out by accident...But it works for now...so unless I can figure out why its doing that and a way to change it...I am beginning to think that on start up it may have something to do with the display driver.because...you can see that the HDD light is blinking and seems to be doing its thing...and when it does start up it shows something about the display but I don't recall what.

hello: this may be a long shot but I have been reading of compatibility issues with your video card and linux.
if your MB has built in graphics a simple test would be to pull your graphics card and connect video directly to MB.
Also appears to be new drivers available but I don't know if they would work for you.

That error i spoke of...It is screen saver related...Electric sheep...I looked it up so I do not think that is the issue...if it were I guess it wouldn't matter how I started it...It would still not show the desktop....It could be possible that I downloaded a bad copy and may try to re-download and see what happens....I doubt that beings it happened with 2 different Ultimate Edition distributions...4,2 and 4.5...I really don't now that I have the know how to pull the graphics card and all that...Its a laptop and I really don't want to mess something up
