How about some sounds?

Feedback for Ultimate Edition 4.2

How about some sounds?

Postby Zaileion » Sun Sep 07, 2014 5:18 pm

i am trying to make Ultimate Edition 4.2 make some sounds. I like sosunds... lets me know the sound card is working and my clicks and functions were successful.

for example:
navigation clicks
open and close sounds
menu pop sounds
etc etc...

here is a link i tried to make my custom login sound but it didn't work. It just doesn't make any sound.
http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/201 ... ntu-13-04/

i know its for 13.04 but couldn't find anything else...

i did install mplayer, but when that didn't work i tried "cvlc" instead of mplayer at the beginning of the command.

if i simply copy the command form the startup entry and paste into terminal the sound plays fine so I'm sure my command is correct and I'm sure my sound card is working.

could my sound card drivers be loading after the sound is played (during startup, or login)?

Is there another way to play a custom login sound?

is there a way to load custom sound packs or customize the system sounds like the list at the top...?

Instead of using mplayer, or whatever..switch out the opening sounds in usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo

Probably should make it an .ogg, this is easily done through audacity. This is also a good place to cut and make the sounds you want from any available audio.

Probably should ask if there are any sounds playing to begin with, like can you get the original sound to play?

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:
