No Window Borders, Ultimate Edition 4.2 Lite x64

Feedback for Ultimate Edition 4.2

No Window Borders, Ultimate Edition 4.2 Lite x64

Postby Wolfie Lee » Mon Aug 18, 2014 6:50 pm

Been out of the loop a long time without internet. Moving out of 2.7, believe it or not. Do I need to add the Ultimate Repo to synaptic in 4.2 lite? Only reason I ask is because I was looking for Ultimate Player...but I am assuming that is gone? Assuming also the repo is already pre-installed?

I have tried to run repair mode but it only comes to a (#) command prompt, at which, at one point, I ran dpkg, but I still have no borders on any windows...no way to resize, or move windows, either, just minimize and maximize at the taskbar.

<<Update>> tried changing themes to no avail. .

I am not exactly positive what the window manager is for 4.2 but for Mate it is Marco(Metacity fork) so

Open a terminal

Code: Select all
marco --replace
or
Code: Select all
metacity --replace

If Window Manager comes back

Open up dconf editor

Navigate to org-->mate-->desktop-->session-->required components

Make sure there is a Window Manager here and it is either Marco or Metacity

If it is refusing to launch at startup, you can add the above commands to startup

Applications-->Preferences-->Startup

and see if that will work.

The Ultimate Repo has been down for awhile as has maintenance for Ultimate Player

I am not sure what repair mode is and dpkg theoretically shouldn't help..maybe if you upgraded and interrupted the process. Upgrading itself will cause issues.

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:

Packard Bell Pack Mate II 286 Intel 80286 1MB RAM

Actually, I meant to say "Recovery" mode...

Thanks! It works, but...

how to open the dconf editor...and navigate to the directory you showed? Sorry, need a little hand-holding...lol.

It works as long as I run it at startup and leave that terminal open...btw...it is marco, I'm in Mate DE.

OK! This one is solved! Just added command to start-up, like you said.

Thanks for the solution!
