I'm way over 60 years old, so the Gray on Black background needed to be changed, to a color scheme similar to this forum. Because I'm so familiar with KDE, this change was as quick as enlarging all the font sizes to better be seen on a 1080 fifteen-inch screen.
Then I tried to install my favourite apps: ONBOARD keyboard, and LUCKY backup. Synaptic did not have them. This is the first time I've seen this in a kubuntu-derived distro; I've tried all of them in the last several years.
Because it's Kubuntu derived, it has the standard installer, that says that Sydney - Australia is probable Macquarie Island, and refuses to show one font size in the correct size, after the default is altered.
3.9 has it usual Linux-KDE tastes which all except of Kubuntu-derived avoids. There are too many second-rate KDE apps, instead on just including the non-KDE better apps. Only knowledgable KDE users might avoid these KDE second-class offerings.
I like the extra repositories available, but most Kubntu-derivatives have these as well. Whether I'll stay with KDE, instead of Netrunner? Mint-KDE has too much Light-White txt on a dazzling-white background: opposite Ultimate's coloring.
If I get time, I'll post here a Youtube demo of what I think are the better preferences of a Linux distro. We can then see if Linux can lose its status of being just for system-admins & geeks.
