I was using ubuntu 10.04 and it was failing left and right. I fixed a few things then tried to play Quake Wars. It worked fine in past versions of ubuntu. Not anymore. The grafting of pulse audio to the distro ruined my Quake Wars. No matter what I tried I had a 30 sec delay with my sound. I got fed up and installed Gamer 2.4 and I am playing the Quake Wars again!! Very well done!!

Welcome to Ultimate Edition...there is alot times a update will mess your system up....me I just do a reinstall....not the right way...but it is faster....and you did not learn anything

I am having problems getting the sound to work in the RTCW Enemy Territory. Tried the et_sdl hack but it just pops and cracks on start up and then there is no sound. Any suggestions?

Can you please upload some screen shots of your mixers.
Hope that you have install bout alsa - Gnome mixer + pulse audio + Device Chooser.

Its not the mixers.You have to change some lines withing the game cofig files to run with oss.Also there's many fixes for different types of cards.There was a way that you have to start the game in terminal with some commands...

First run this in terminal...

Code: Select all

echo 'wolfsp.x86 0 0 direct' > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

Then....

Code: Select all

/usr/local/games/wolfenstein/wolfsp.x86

or if that doesn't work...

Sorry, I can't remember exactly which command I used to get it to work a year or so ago.Also that link is for the game Enemy Territory,but still can be applied to RTCW.
