No Desktop

Postby eldonkr » Fri Dec 25, 2009 12:31 am

I installed Ultimate Gamers 2.3 today. After it boots and I log in I'm greeted with a completely blank black screen. Nothing but a black background and the spinning mouse. No menus, no icons, no clock. NOTHING.

What's going on here?

I did a hard reset and logged back in and it's been sitting on this black screen and mouse thing for about 15 minutes now.

What do I do?

I did a restart and it's been sitting on that black screen for about 20 minutes and now the mouse isn't rotating and the screen is grey and black lines. Kind of like when you pulled the game out of a NES when it was still on.

something I have noticed is that Ultimate Edition does a disk check every 30 or so reboots and doesn't tell you. So it looks like a hang. I have gotten it in the first boot screen, but it is conceivable that it would get past that and hang before your desktop

I don't remember the specs on the laptop. it's just one of the random laptops I have that works.

I doubt that it was a bad download. I had 2.3 gamers running on the same laptop with a different hard drive a month ago, that hard drive went bad.

Either way it doesn't matter. I switched from 2.3 gamers to regular 2.3. Problem solved.
