Hello madhatter.

do you know how to log in to your modem/router?
like- 192.168.0.1
10.0.0.138
127.0.0.1
open your Firefox and insert the address one of them will take you
to the Admin log in.
you will need user=Admin,pass=Admin.
there in the option you will see the option of the DHCP server=on.
and make it to be DHCP connection.
OR
please upload some screen shots here from the log in to the modem/router panel.
And I will Guide you from there.

I tried that with the numbers you gave, and it told me the addresses could not be found. I think the problem is that Linux does'nt have the drivers for my PCI network card. I have the cd that came with the card, but it only tells me how to install in windoze. Is there any way to get Linux to recognize the drivers for this PCI network card? Then again, I might be completely off base. I do not know how to do the screen shots you suggested so we can resolve this issue. I am open to all suggestions. I am sending this from my other computer. Thanks again.

Hi madhatter,
On your top panel, right hand side, you will see an icon for networking connections. Right click this icon and choose Edit and see if your PCI card shows up here or if the right ethernet port is chosen for connection.

Cheers.

I opened that panel a number of times with no luck. I click on the wired window and it states " etho 0" and "etho 1" and beside each one of them to the right of them it says "never". I tried to edit and a number of ways to get computer to recognise the PCI network card with no luck. Again, it is my belief that without the proper drivers for this operating system my computer will never recognise it. Do you agree? Is there a PCI card that I can buy cheap that windoze and Linux both will recognise, or maybe I will go to the company that made the card to download the drivers for this system, if they have them for Linux. Any other suggestions will be a big help. Thanks

Hi madhatter

Just a guess, but try marking the line "Auto eth 1" and delete it. I had a similar issue some time ago, but can't remember if I only deleted the one line to get it working, or both and then "Add" a new one, but it helped me.
