I don't know for sure if Compiz Fusion is installed in 1.4 or not (I don't think so), if it is installed just open up a terminal and type:
Code: Select all
ccsm

this will start Compiz Configuration Screen Manager. Good Luck :D
ps- I think that at the time 1.4 came out Compiz was very unstable and Beryl was still the king, but now Beryl is no-longer and Compiz has taken over. I don't know how stable Compiz Fusion will be with 1.4, It might be just fine or it could cause you some problems ;)

compiz is there... under system preferences compiz config mgr. All necessary boxes are checked for cube rotation, just nothing happens., in beryl settings mgr had to be loaded before beryl would work, is this the case with compiz if so how?

Hit alt+F2 to open the run dialogue then type compiz --replace. If you end up with no window decorations you can then hit alt+F2 again and type emerald --replace or you can go into compiz settings and go to the windows decorations command and type emerald in the command box.

go to compiz manager>>general settings>>desktop size>>horizontal = 4 (you could go much more, but it ends up with so many sides it looks like a circle)

just a note of appreciation to DaddyX3 and zero prime for the help!!!After some further research, I have come to the conclusion that because I'm using an older version(1.4) that I have actually only compiz installed rather than compiz-fusion... probably why I wasn't finding some of the functionality of beryl that I was looking for. I have a 1.6 disc ordered ... does this have compiz or compiz-fusion installed? I guess I'll see soon enough and then I'll probably be back with all my uninformed questions... THANKS FOR THE HELP...Happy holidays( politically incorrect Merry Christmas)

Compiz-Fuzion is preinstalled and very easy to use with 1.6 It's only a matter of right clicking on the desktop and go to change desktop background. You can enable effects there or click on custom settings and use the Compiz control manager. Very easy.

OK. I just got 1.6 installed, and have been working to get compiz going. For the most part, I have it the way I want it. How can I get it to load at start up with my current settings? Another question, with beryl, I was able to make my cube rotate all directions while spinning, with compiz I have yet been able to do this, what setting am I missing? To be a little more specific, I was able to view top and bottom cube caps, but have not been able to achieve this with compiz

I noticed a difference in mouse configuration in 1.6 compaired to 1.5. I rotate the cube in all directions with cntrl+alt+middle mouse button to initiate and rotate by keeping the middle mouse button held down during mouse movement.
