Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" released

Discussions on the Debian OS.

Debian has a habit of calling it 'unstable'. But the truth is that stability applies to multiprocessor systems with
more than 4 CPU's and over 128 GB RAM !

Same here, finally got infected with Debian.

So can I ask how much better your machine's runs on Debian? Cause every time i test an Ubuntu, i feels like Windows to me...

Yup...gnome-classic fallback.
All the shadow work is done by xcompmgr. Icon set- faenza.
compiz is very good, but was even better back in 2010. There is just too much bloat now. Even mate with compiz pulls in too many resources, not something like gnome-2.xx + compiz ....that meshed well....remember UE2.6.
Besides spinning cubes, everything else has taken a back seat.

Its pretty much the same in usage and performance compared to ubuntu. Debian uses very little memory. But its the challenge and addiction to learning that sets the ball rolling. You can uninstall unity and install whatever you want. On the hardware side Debian supports esoteric hardware like old modems and even newer broadband wireless dongles(unlike windows/ubuntu). Ubuntu has better video support and works better with bleeding edge video cards...fingers can point to the new kernel, but ubuntu is built for the desktop and some hardware manufacturer's even take the liberty mentioning it on the cardboard it comes in. TBH Ubuntu does have better documentation!!
RAID support on Debian is unparalleled.

Obviously Debian gives you the rolling distro happiness and you learn more.

The installation itself feels solid...

But i had to rip off xubuntu to understand what all packagesi would need extra for some smooth working. Infact i don't understand why ubuntu's 3.2 kernel did not come with vgaswitcheroo... i have switched off my card directly in debian.

Some problems though.. since its and HP with beats audio after installation debian did not boot... gave the amirex error. I knew what it was ... booted a live distro and blacklisted snd-usb-audio .. thats it..! Then installed the wifi drivers manually. But i think it was worth it.

Pam . i am a programmer by profession .. so i dont want to spend much time fixing a broken installation if there are major changes in Unstable.
I saw that there are few apt-changes show while upgrading...! Thats what worries me. ANd there is no freezing of unstable..like in testing.

One more thing can there be a Debian support forum her .. because our members are much active and helping than the debian forum and debian's documentations is not complete enough.

Same here, it can be an absolute waste of time to fix things. Was merely referring to it from a standpoint of building an OS off Debian.

Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" doesn't appear to have a Live view so you can evaluate it???
I downloaded the very basic version.. an it only appears to have an install mode ???

Would like to look things over before installing..????
