Since no other environment can come even close to KDE at this point without being either a historical artifact like Mate, XFCE, LXDE, etc.., or a complete waste of RAM that has become Gnome 3, maybe we can finally see some healthy competition between KDE 4 and KDE 5!

Wish you would have shown how the menu looks! Most curious on that since that is the main reason I do not like using KDE! Every time I go to use it, I never find what I am looking for unless I type it in the search! Just slows me down too much. I see the taskbar is now on top or is it just movable??? Interested as I have said before since to me don't like the way Gnome has decided to go, so am still up in the air how I would like next OS I make to be! Time's a bit short til Monday so if you can post some pics of any changes would be awesome and well appreciated!

This is Beta1, so as one may imagine it looks remarkably like KDE 4. That would explain why it only took me 30 minutes to customize it, however if you click on the link I believe it has the menu interface and the calender.

In regards to the menu, the menu for KDE can be setup however you want it in any type of fashion, it is really a limitation of the user and not KDE itself that may cause issues. Really if you can not find a thing it is because you do not know a thing. For KDE 5 specifically, the menu is not integrated anyways, no program installed will show on the menu, I was running things off terminal like any good ninja would in that situation.

KDE is really becoming amazing but they seriously need to work on the compositor - kwin - to further reduce overhead.

I think KDE 5 will be highly integrated with itself and wayland, just like a neutron star, happy and content.

In order to truly integrate with Wayland, KDE will probably have to rewrite kwin or dump it at some point.

And that sums it up.
I cant imagine nor do I care what the KDE guys are thinking or what the waylander's are thinking but Im sure they('ll) have a solution.

There is a compositing kill switch that was implemented in I think 4.7, or 4.8(alt+shift+F12) I think realistically they are still developing with X Win and will be for the for the near future and have no way to really split it up. This may be useful for doing releases on both, so the compositor can be used for X WIn, and maybe Wayland can implement with it shut down..wouldn't have any use really otherwise, this would be speculation on my part. So...workarounds.
