Qtcurve can cause a lot of problems but I am not sure if this was the cause, definitely bugged up here. Can not disable screen locker. Wallpaper crashes. A big problem is when setting up I am just throwing everything at it, and i always have crashes from window management switch..even on Black Opal with backports, so when I finally am noticing that I am dealing with something different it becomes annoying to track it down. "Oh really bug report, my plasma crashed? I hadn't noticed".

I love how this was turning out though, so I know I will reinstall, but I may have to give up and run an actual Kubuntu

Did not use Kubuntu, although I did try it out, 12.10 and 13.04 Raring developmental, but I like my Ultimate Edition better so I went with a 3.4 lite as my base again. I don't think I can really salvage the above but I do have a working monochromed Backported 4.10. Mint 14 I recently moved to internal so I see it being revamped. Meanwhile back in Detroit....

Ultimate Edition 3.4 Lite LTS(12.04.2) (32) 3.2.0-40-generic kernel
Upgraded and Dist-Upgraded-Ubuntu Sources,Tualtrix, and Mozilla only(not commented out on sources), kubuntu backports added, kde-full install

Some cool stuff for Ultimate Edition 3.5--upgrade, dist-upgrade to 12.04.2, backported...

It may have been noticed I almost always remove update-manager.

I am not completely without an update-manager. I am without an Ubuntu update-manager.

More Ultimate Edition 3.5 backported, upgraded, dist-upgrade, ununified...

Nautilus pops up everywhere and it sucks...there is an easy way around this....

Go to home-->.config-->xfce4-->helpers.rc

Open this with an editor...

Where it says FileManager=

You have 3 base choices that it will accept right away you can enter...

nautilus
pcmanfm
thunar

...and it will change accordingly..but what if you don't want those?

Go into the XFCE environment and make the GUI do it for you...

Go back in to the helpers.rc file and open it...

In the field where it says FileManager=, enter whatever..

helperrc.png

Now go into your Launcher and choose File Manager, you will be greeted with a screen that looks like this(although less awesome and probably more centered)....

fm.png

Click on that and it will give you an entry field, type the name of your preferred file manager...

fm1.png

Now choose that file manager...

fm2.png

Now when you are in this environment(XFCE) it will pull off of Dolphin but probably better to change to pcmanfm or thunar if you are always here, but what this will do is make it so when you are in KDE and open folders with Transmission or what have you, it will open Dolphin instead of Nautilus, and you should have some more consistency with your icon settings through this as well.

In about 5 days, I'll either do a rework of 3.5 or 3.4 lite for 4.10.3. I recently went through 3.5 again and everything is stable and steady for 4.10.2. Well..experimentally stable..there are plasmoid crashes..but hey, 4 fully working environments!

This is something to consider as that may not hold true after 4.10.3 is released.

For Fun

Adding Ubuntu Satanic Edition

You will need to go to

http://ubuntusatanic.org/installation.php

To add a repository

First you will need the key

Open Terminal

Code: Select all
wget -q http://ubuntusatanic.org/ubuntu-se-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Go root

Code: Select all
su

Open the editor

Code: Select all
geany

Open sources list

root/etc/apt/sources.list

Code: Select all
deb http://ubuntusatanic.org/hell precise main

Add the source to your list.

I started geany, but not sure what to do from there.
P.S. I should've done this first cause it crashed my environment since I had previously done the upgrades, so I re installed and no issue. LOL
Thanks for the links by the way. :D

Sorry, had to switch OS. Ok, looking at it..you have to go back to the original post..but you are adding a source and you can do that first...

You are going to need to open a root editor, I included them in my install parameters so...

Go root

You can do this a few ways but I am either enacting superuser to make changes

$sudo

or at root...

#

To get to root you can set up superuser as follows

Go to Terminal

Code: Select all
sudo passwd

Here it will ask you to create your unix password...do so

Afer that has been done we go root by going

Code: Select all
su

Alternatively you could just go

Code: Select all
sudo -s

Many times I wish to run at root with a program I will just use sudo "program" or dbus-launch "program" For example...
Code: Select all
sudo gimp

So back to root

Go root

Code: Select all
su

Open Geany

Code: Select all
geany

To navigate here....root/etc/apt/sources.list

Click on open an existing file, or navigate to file and go to open..

Navigate to the sources list just like you would any other folder and file...
So here it is click on file system, click on etc, click on apt, click on sources list

Copy and paste the deb(deb http://ubuntusatanic.org/hell precise main)into your sources list just like the picture I provided..here is another one
ue35x.png

Save and exit

Update your sources so it is in there..

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

Then go back to the site and continue with the directions I provided.

None of that matters too much by the way. It's just theming..like
It's cool...
ue35x1.png

But matters very little, the important part by far is the first part. This has to be pretty exact.
