I save my resources for important things like video transcoding.
Are you saying I'm an antique? Well you'd be correct!

My animated wall. I hate dark walls. Too depressing. I'm not 13 anymore. I'm going there some day.Maybe not in this life!
I'm old school. I like XP. It's logical and less resource hungry.
I turn off automatic updates, block all pop-ups as well.No nagging crap. If I wanted a nag I'd still be married. Computers are not human they are tools. I use Comodo firewall and Avast anti-virus for protection.
I use it as my entertainment tool(1700 full lenth movies, 700 mp3s, 900 documentaries,7200 karaoke tracks etc. etc. well you get the point). I hate commercials! Here are the programs I use:
I listen to this:http://www.sky.fm/play/smoothjazz while I compute.

I'd use '98 if it had better hardware recognition. '98 and XP are the only things MS got right.
How fast do you need it to be? It's a quad core at 3.4/3.8. I can process 4 files at once in a couple of minutes.

i know what you mean .....+ you got hyperthreading
most new oses feel bloated internally..
like you put it updates are worthless as long as the kernel can manage the threads in a nice way...thats more than decent performance.

I looked at the AMD stuff. On paper it looked good but in reality not so. I'm an Intel kinda guy Kingston ram. The system ssd also helps and the motherboard.
It's got 8 threads and built in graphics. I'm holding off till Intel makes an all in one cpu(cpu w/audio as well as video). I have an unlocked multiplier. I could run it at 5 or 6 with proper cooling if I so desired.
Not bad for 1000 bucks Canadian.

I have a 50 inch plasma TV I'm looking at right now. What can I say, I'm half blind. And listening to a sony amp and Axiom speakers(left centre right).
Not too loud. It's 6 a.m. here.
Tablets and laptops are toys. I won't even look at them.
