Dragonfly BSD

Anyone get this one working? So far all attempts to load on Virtualbox are coming up nil! Tried a few different methods and am almost ready to give up on it! Still I would like to see it as you know me, love viewing as many OS's as I can and only stop when have seen enough! So if anyone has some clues on it, will be very grateful for advice! Thanks

I cannot veryify it working in virtualbox, but in VMware workstation I never had any issues. I like the concept of BSD regarding compatibility between base systems and binary. Not to mention ZFS. But benchmarks comparing UFS and ZFS to ext3 and ext4 are not impressive. In fact they are considerably poor as ext4 pretty much comes out on top in every category. I have heard that BSD kernel is superior to Linux kernel too, but I have also seen benchmarks proving otherwise. And on top of that most BSD user dont care about anyone else except themselves. Dont take thas the wrong way , as i will explain further. Most Open Source and Linux users try to convert windows users to Linux and get the word out to the masses that there is an alternative OS. BSD users on the other hand, could care less...

Try this first in Vbox. Open settings, system, motherboard tab, chipset settings, change from piix3 to ICH9. If still no luck check to see if IOAPIC and both Virtual Options are checked. Also uncheck PAE/NX. If your still unsucessful, try VMware. I wont rant about Oracle since i already did about BSD. Not to mention my making more work for the Admin's by having them post the forum rules to be clear. I will keep my opinions to a minimum guys. Good luck...

Thanks for the advice Micro, I do forget those settings at times! Of course once again all attempts even drastic ones like increasing memory and processors after I re-enabled PAE and no success! Guess it just doesn't like me so much!!! Is one of 3 systems ever to fail loading for me! The other 2 were no big deals as are kind of real obscure!!! Was dragged at this one as I do enjoy Unix systems! VMware, can't afford it! Not going to try the wrong way to get it! Have changed those ways since Linux and is another reason moved away from the paying ways. Also the fact I am broke! Am real good with little bits of cash, but these days are not even bits anymore! Getting the software that is usually paid for and in the free ways, is something that is beyond me these days! Used to be fairly simple, now viruses will bombard or wild goose chases to the real deal! Not for me, open source is my friend! Teaches me all the right ways and doesn't waste my day! Will try their 32bit version when I get a chance to download it! Should have thought about the memory and all! Unix uses a bit more usually! Was worth a try and really do appreciate all help! With all the things on my mind these days, at times I do forget things!!! Thanks once again and hopefully in the next week, or possibly tomorrow will try the 32bit maybe will be less strain with VBOX!

still use whenever i can and love FreeBSD.
But the creators dont care much about who wants to use or who could use it. They are just happy being all geeky about it.
But the lack of friendliness just translates directly to the OS!
BSD is in a sad state with limited hardware support.......no AMD graphics support only NVIDIA.........im guessing AMD has a problem with BSD
Mac os uses BSD underneath just as Dragonfly.
Virtualisation is out for me at the moment unless i set it up like pch.shot's config.
years ago when i used vmware workstation on a pentium three laptop i was very very happy and vbox didnt yield much in terms of supplying optimized hardware virtualization resources to a guest os.....but that's taken care by new chips and ample memory.
I tried paravirtualization with xen and it makes up for vbox being too bare.
Xen is cool but until i have time to fire it up ................. :)
http://www.xen.org/

there is evident on the site, xen running on arm cortex 15!!!-----paravirtualization on your mobile device...
Now im running off topic......

Thought I had replied, but must have slipped past! Am happy to see some pics. Thought it was more GUI, but must have read it wrong! Very absent-minded I am at times! PC-Shot can blame it on me! I forget where to post things at times. Forum is vast and full of great ideas and people! But, yes I get lost at times and put things in the wrong place, so am sorry for that! Have to head back to the subject that least holds my interest. Networking! For some reason I have the attention span of a 5 year old when I get into it! Just doesn't interest me! Systems, programming and programs hold me very hard! In a little over a week will be free to venture back to that, and am I looking forward to it! Will also check back with another Unix OS as have a deep interest in it! Once again thanks for pics so I know what is up! Is great having people that help and look into things. Never belonged to a better forum than Ultimate! This is not my first forum either. Have been on a number of them. Some are helpful, but most times there are people that are more intelligent and they jam it down your throat! Not here, all intelligent and willing to share and help! The most admirable and honorable qualities ever!!!!!
