Android on PC.

Postby Tool » Sat Jul 06, 2013 1:56 pm

I have seen that you can run Android on PC. Does this include play store apps? Games primarily. I mean, will it run the games on it like it will on the phone? Any special system requirements that I may need to be aware of? And last, if it will do these things, do I have to have a graphics card like I have to have now for my PC games? Thanks.

You can run Gapps(Google Apps) but there are legality issues here and there. As far as games it varies. Depends on how and what you run, and what you are using to run it. As far as hardware I find it helps to have a monitor you can physically turn on its side.

My thought was emulators. I have found an easier compatibility with running game emulators on my android and they obviously don't require as much physical power as far as RAM and processor. For example, the PSP emulator is available on the play store and there are legal free games (Ones that were made by individuals that aren't available in stores) as is even stated in the description of the app on the play store and it seems a PC OS requires a lot more power to run the same emulator and is much more difficult to set up on the PC. I was kinda wondering if it might be worth a look or try.

Trying will always create a learning experience. Will that scenario work? Probably not. But if that's not a reason for me to go out and get a new ARM, I have no idea what is!! Still, You are running an emulator to run an emulator. One thing that prevents me from going full scale support for Linux on ARM(outide of Android) is that it is generally an emulate, so when I go to run say, a gba emulator, I am on an ARM, emulating an X_86, emulating an ARM.

However....

Maybe we can build it from source.

Someone has done this with Arch already it seems.

Interesting. I need to learn how to build from source. Any ideas for a good source on info to learn this? What exactly does it mean when you "Build from source"? I gotcha on the multiple emulations too.

Building from source is just using the source code to make an executable. For most software applications there are three steps:
configure -- setup the source code for your system.
make -- build the executable
make install -- actually install the application to the final location.

Depending on what application you are installing the steps may differ.
For example, when building the kernel.
