Anybody figure out how to mount a s3 in Linux? Just pisses me off that I have to use windowz to add media to my s3. What was Samsung thinking? I thought Android was Linux native? I have even tried bluetooth and cannot get files to sync. Only workaround I have found so far is Dropbox.

I was actually hoping Blackwolf had the solution to the Samsung mount issues. Insofar as Android goes, I ONLY have had problems with Samsung. I pulled my SD completely from my Galaxy Tab 2 because of this issue. I use Webkey to get around this.

hmmm, my Samsung Stratosphere (a Galaxy with a real keyboard) mounts fine in 2.9 and 2.6.X, taht is via USB wire. I downloaded AirDroid for when I get my laptop next month.

I am in complete agreement that it doesn't make sense. It might have something to do with the court issues between Samsung and Apple considering that Google pretty much threw them under the bus and bought Motorola. Curious if your Stratosphere is loaded with Safari like my Galaxy Tab 2 is for some unknown reason. I have been meaning to flash it which of course would take care of any mount issues. I doubt very much there are any issues with the Galaxy Nexus by the way, since Google would kill, as that was their baby and still to this moment, the original Google Nexus(OEM) is one awesome piece of hardware.

Yeah I don't know why the S3 won't mount, I googled it and it seems to be a known issue. It has something to do with MTP and PTP which are the 2 options you are given to choose from when connecting the phone to a Windows pc. From what I understand Linux has no support for MTP which is the media protocol. PTP is camera mode which also doesn't work. I thought bluetooth would work and I can connect but the file transfers fail. What sucks is in Windowz it all works including bluetooth transfers. I have not rooted the phone since it's still under warranty. I am hoping that ubuntu will release a Rom for their phone os soon cause then I'll consider rooting. I have never had a phone I couldn't mount on linux untill the S3

Don't have Safari on mine, Firefox works good enough for me. Wonder if it's because I am using older Ubuntu/Ultimate Edition distros.

Safari is just what came with it, it works ok, I have no allegiance to any particular browser, all flash crashes. I think they chose it for the system to switch to a desktop mode. It also doesn't have adobe flash. Definitely not the normal Android setup, down to the silly USB plug. The last thing that ever needed to be copied from Apple and very annoying.
