Nice and slick B ! :)
Seriously i am not into cinnamon nor would recommend it to anyone.
To me its just another gtk based desktop.
Maybe 5 years from now ill have real respect for it like...gnome3, xfce, mate, lxde, openbox etc etc.

I'ma DE-agnostic Ilike what works best forme. Mte and Cinnamon suit my needs. I use LXDE and XFCE on old PCs though! But I recommend you install Cinnamon 2.0 and se if you like it. It hs built-in sound effects and it's faster than Mate. Moreover there are everyday more of the compiz effects coming to it as extensions. Check their website and see for yourself. I have my criticismfor Cinnamon as well and that is because it doesn't have a touchscreen GUI :D But why do you hate it Pam? Ceck this out: :downthere

Hmmm....
ok, So yes ill try it(surely) when i have more time and see if it has any overhead...
Honestly, id just use awesome, xmonad and write my own scripts for automation and desktop usability....openbox already does that...compton works best for me versus anything compiz.

Im just not into desktops anymore. The least overhead(average mem and cpu consumption) and latency is what i root for.
I have 16 gb, out of which 500mb -- 1 gb goes toward desktop. Gimp eats 8 gb easy depending on what you do. Firefox eats another 2. I fire up inkscape another 1 gb goes. Most memory intensive programs require additional memory. I'll be using 12 and gimp will be unusable...

I'm not a developer myself! But I red on developers say about Cinnmon 2.0 like these guys from Linux Action Show here http://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/47232/linux-mint-16-review-las-s29e09/ and others on the forums. Most of them has migrated to Mint because of Cinnamon. It's more productive, they say, then any other desktop. Cinnamon wasn't as stable as it is today and it didn't have all the effects I want (like transparent window and wobbly effects) but now it does have them all and it's very flexible. I like the idea of adding effects and other functionalities as extensions and applets without going through Google and all. I never used OPENBOX before but i think I'll try it soon. I used to run Ultimate Edition 3.6 Mate on an old PC and then replaced it with Cinnamon 2.0 and noticed that Cinnamon 2.0 is more responsive. I like the concept of Ultimate Edition and I have suggested something here http://forumubuntusoftware.info/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=9615 for them. If they have enough resources to implement it, I think Ultimte Edition will be the best Linux distro. I want to know your take and Thee's on that :D

Give my theme a shot(Black_Beauty_CD), still is good for Cinnamon 2.0. Haven't made any for a bit as that 2nd OS I made was giving me hell! Xavius(my 3rd) is not giving me hell, but am kind of hell bent on fixing that mix of a system I call the 4th! Soon as I either shelve it or get it going correctly, will head back to theme making. I love it! I may not be the greatest theme creator, but I do enjoy it and many of the works that come from GNome-looks! Sky-blue-gnome icons are also simply the nicest looking icons that can go on any desktop! Should know as I downloaded them and have them running on all my desktops, even KDE! Love noobslab, very very artistic people and so creative! Just figured would mention as Western-Saloon I imagine would look really sweet with them! Despite what anyone may say about Cinnamon it is more solid than it previously was. Now if we can just get Mate to break away, now that day I am really looking forward to!!!!! My screensaver trick with xscreensaver works like a charm as it also appears on every desktop. If you get any hassles trying to use xscreensaver on Cinnamon, simply copy paste xscreensaver in usr/bin and rename to cinnamon-screensaver after you delete the original! I absolutely hate my screen going black! Anyway very very nice looking theme that Western-Saloon is!!!! Love the creativity there!!!!!

ok, so i tried cinnamon 2.
Its not bad as it used to be and full of pretense.
The fact that it culls off from gnome is a good thing without dictating any standard like gtk2/gtk3. No pimps here.
A year from now it will be more than just a serious DE and its lightweight too.
It also inherits core attributes of gnome.
It has a software only rendering DE mode.
A good thing just like running only compiz.

It tries majorly to emulate the MacOS desktop with sound clicks and good meshed in DE effects but its original too.
Not bad, not bad at all.
No hype here anymore, its just another power DE.

I toldyou my friend you gonnalike it! It has loads of extensions too but the bad news is that Ubuntu wants to start charging for use of repros by Mint and others http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=152450#p793930

I aint wasting my time speculating.
How many converts are there today.
....people worship arch linux like its some religion. I see it going for the jugular of ubuntu and making a stand with steam OS.

BTW applaud to linux mint team for doing a swell of a job on mint and cinnamon. :gt12 :vil_biereallemand

I guess they did! I wish Ultimate Edition 4.0 will be as good as Mint 16! :D WhatCanonicalis after everyone forits binary packages and Mint is likely to make LMDE as it's main focus :D
