Need .png Converted to .so -- Pretty Please...

Need .png Converted to .so -- Pretty Please...

Postby Baphomet » Sat Oct 11, 2008 7:04 pm

Hey all,,, I have this .png file (attached) I've been trying to convert to an .so file to no avail. These instructions are not working for me and I have no idea how else to proceed. I just want to use this as my uSplash and most all the pics you find in the uSplash section are .png files, not .so which is what Startup Manager wants to use. It's driving me nuts... Which just so happens to remind me of a joke which I'll post elsewhere.

Any help appreciated...

Appreciate the efforts guys but once again I'm stymied. First I couldn't get SUM to import the file, so I though maybe, just maybe if I rename it... And voila! Got the .so file INTO the menu of available options. Using it though, is another story. The usplash never appears, and instead, I get a textural "no quiet" sort of boot and shut down. I'm currently in the process of trying different resolutions so I'll let you know if I hit the right combination.

Thanks again ('specially you BigDaddy) for the efforts and such... Hopefully this is just user-error.

Ya, I'm kinda thinking it might be something to do with the resolution you posted. Not sure though, but is my hunch. I remember TheeMahn talking about this every so often and asking cowboy to make some much higher resolutions than this, but maybe thats just for high res desktops.... I dunno

It's weird because thats as big a file as you can get. I just checked again and yeah, my attachment takes you to a full size download. It must be working for somebody because if you go to Gnome-Look, and sort splash screens by number of downloads, it's like the fifth one down from the top. Well, I guess that indicates total number of downloads, though, not installs, huh??

Anyway, I'm trying different resolution settings in the upsplash menu to see if that helps. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. Not going to get this close and give up this easily <shakes tiny, impotent fist>...
