Not all androids above 4.0 have this problem. Only those which have stopped supporting ums by default. Even my nexus 4 is a mtp device. But fortunately Ivan use drivedroid in sums mode.

I'm getting nothing at all with 13.04 on my Samsung. Picking up Motorola. Both 4.04. I'm sad now. Guess I'm Windows Mobile and Windows 8 bound.

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:

Upgrade Gvfs in Ubuntu 12.10 and 12.04 to get Android 4.0 support for devices which don't support USB Mass Storage interface

1. To add the Gvfs (and libmtp) PPA created by the Gvfs MTP backend developer in Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10, use the following commands:

Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:langdalepl/gvfs-mtp
sudo apt-get update

2. Then, launch Software Updater/Update Manager/Synaptic and install the available updates.
or
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get upgrade

3. Once everything has been updated successfully, restart your computer, unlock your Android device, connect it via USB and it should show up in your file manager (tested with Nautilus and Thunar 1.6).

It makes the sound, but doesn't connect. I have had to do workarounds with it to get to normal ICS menu options before. I may just wipe it and install Bodhi. Still, as a stand alone device, it's not that bad. It will play whatever game, no problem. Runs NDS Emu even. I can always link everything with Teamviewer. I should have rommed it, but I wanted to see it's normal state first, and then I got sidetracked. Now it's pretty stocked.
