They (Ubuntu) changed dpkg reconfigure xorg, in Hardy Heron. This is why you no longer have the same ability as what you did in 1.7. Some liked the change (when it worked for them with no hassels), some hated it. I was a in the latter. You can still go in and edit your xorg.conf file manually though...
